  1. 1. Purpose Games
    2. web-based: (purposegames.com)
    3. This website has a search bar in which students can type in virtually any subject to see a variety of timed quizzes uploaded by site users.
    4. Geography students can use this tool to review map items for an upcoming test, for example, and also for simply having fun testing their skills in a variety of subject areas.
    5. level of SAMR: Augmentation, mainly due to the use of "computer technology to perform common tasks"

  2. 1. Nuclear App
    2. iOS
    3. The Nuclear App is a visual exploration tool for an atom. It shows the different sub-atomic particles and how changing the numbers of those particles affects the atom. (Adding a proton changes the element, adding electrons changes the charge) It also shows nuclear decay if the proportion of protons and neutrons is not correct.
    4. I would use this app when we are learning about atomic number and atomic mass. Instead of the students receiving the information that atomic number is number of protons, they could see how adding a proton affects the atomic number.
    5. level of SAMR: Modification - Students are performing a new task that was not previously available without the app.

  3. 1. Opposing Viewpoints in Context Web Database
    2. Web-based.
    3. This website is simply a very well-organized online database for up-to-date news on a variety of "hot topics" globally. This is a tool that I have introduced to students for two years now and it's become one of the four things I endorse most in life (someone can ask me the other three at some other time).
    4. My students in all classes can use this tool to both aid in writing/speaking assignments related to language arts, but also can use this to learn digital citizenship, including understanding source citations and reliable sources.
    5. I would probably say this falls under the augmentation umbrella as it is simply an online component related to old fashioned tried and true research.

  4. 1. Notability
    2. iOS
    3. Notability allows students to import pdf documents into the app and write on them. Students can "hand write" or type on the app. They can also highlight.
    4. I have slowly, as I learn more about it, been integrating this into our readings. Recently, for a unit over characterization, students read "The Cask of Amontillado." They googled a given phrase to find the story, then moved it into Notability. They were to read the story with a partner and define any words they did not know the meaning of in the left column and write any character traits they came across in the right column. I was then able to go through the story the next day and quickly determine if they completed the reading assignment. I also used the app with a lesson on mood and tone. Students read two poems and wrote "mood words" in the margins. Then they went back through and highlighted the "tone words" that created the mood. This really helped with their understanding of mood and tone and the very subtle difference there is between the two. This also allows me to walk around the room while still writing on the Smart Board.
5.This probably falls in the substitution level of SAMR as I have several students who can never seem to remember to bring their iPads or have them charged and I provide them with a paper copy of the story so they can do the exact same thing.

  5. 1. Moby max
    2. Web based
    3. This website allows teachers to create classes, assign students logins, and assesses student mastery of reading and math skills. It then provides lessons based upon where the student is. Teachers can get reports of how long students spent working, what skills they are working on, and how well they are doing.
    4. I use this as station activities during math and lit. Blocks. It could also be used when students are absent, being disciplined out of the classroom, at home, etc.
    5. I would say that this tool is Augmentation. It provides one-on-one instruction and immediate feedback that is not possible for one teacher and a classroom of students in one setting.

  6. 1. Aleks
    2. Web based
    3. Aleks uses artificial intelligence to assess students on math topics. Students can choose a topic to learn. Then they are given a series of problems to work. The number of problems depends on how well they answer. If they seem to understand the topic, they may only have to do two or three. If they get a problem wrong, they can click on the "Explain" button which gives them directions on how to solve the problem. Periodically, they take assessments to test mastery. Afterwards, some topics that are not mastered are returned to them to work on some more. There are lots of reports that can be generated from the website for both teachers and students in order to track progress.
    5. I use it daily in all of my math classes. I teach short lessons based on what the majority of my students are "ready to learn" according to Aleks. i set objectives based on these lesson topics. Students have individual numbers of topics to work on on a given day based on their individual mastery of previous topics. I check their progress every day a variety of things such as which topics they worked on, how many and which problems they got correct or incorrect, how many times they clicked the "Explain" button if at all, and much more. I also periodically check to see how an individual or class is progressing on course standards.
    5. I think that this tool is basically Augmentation in that it utilizes individual learning and immediate feedback. But it is also a Modification in that students are able to tell very quickly how they are progressing toward their goals of mastery of standards. Students are much more independent in their learning with Aleks.

  7. 1. Quizlet
    2. ios and web-based
    3. Quizlet is an app that the teachers and students can create groups of words to study and then take a quiz over. The different forms of studying is flashcards, learn (race), and matching.
    4. On quizlet I or the students can create vocabulary words to study and practice. Since my students always have weekly vocabulary words this is an excellent way for them to get more exposure to the words so they are more likely to retain them. I also can use it for the students to learn and retain root words and the meanings of prefixes and suffixes.
    5. I think this tool is considered augmentation because only a part of it can be put back into a paper method and does provide immediate feedback to the students on if they are right or wrong.
